Spring Cleaning BOGO!!

Happy Saturday!!
I can't believe my break is coming to an end sooo soon. I definitely enjoyed my cuddle time with my lil girly girl and relaxation. It was too chilly to go to the beach, so we pretty much hung around the house... it's pretty sparkly clean now too. I didn't think about the stack of papers that I brought home, or the third grade number of the day pack, so I'm going to tackle them next so I can enjoy my family Easter time tomorrow.

Workshop Wednesday, Facebook Linky, New Spring Frames and a Freebie!

Happy Wednesday!
It's nice to say that. For a while this morning it felt like Monday to me. I was pleasantly surprised when my specials alarm on my phone went off at 10:35 reminding me that it was in fact Wednesday and not Monday! I took the last two days off with my sicky daughter. She had a pretty yucky cold and I thought she had pink eye.Thankfully she does not! I'm so glad she's feeling better now... I always feel so bad when my baby is sick.

Today's topic is: What is your must-have in Writer's Workshop? While I completely forgot to take pictures of my notebooks, I can still give you an idea of what my notebooks are like because "tried" to model them after them AMAZING Beth Newingham. Her website and Scholastic Teacher blog are fantastic and are FULL of ideas which can be implemented in classrooms. If you've never heard of Beth, you MUST go see what she's all about. I don't know how one teacher does so much... and so successfully! Click the picture below to see how she does writer's workshop in her room. You should also bookmark her page and browse when you have time... there's SOOOOO much phenomenal information on her website and blog. Check her out today!

I also like to use the Lucy Calkins "Primary Units of Study" in my classroom as much as I can. Of course I have to elaborate a lot since much of it is written for new writers. On my list of teacher books to buy is her new book "Pathways to the Common Core".  With Common Core being fully implemented next year for 2nd grade next year, I think this will be an invaluable tool to have.

February Currently and a Super Sale!

It's February!! I love February... there are so many fun things to teach {Groundhog's day, Valentine's Day, President's Day, and black history month}. Plus it's a short month too, so once it's over, we're THAT much closer to Spring Break! I love it!

Listening: Makenzie loves the computer... she's a tech junkie already at the young age of 4... she's definitely our kid. She has a few websites that she likes to play, but her fav. is ABCMouse.com. I love ABCmouse because it reinforces the skills she's learning in pre-k, but I also like it 'cause it's teaching her skills that she won't be exposed to until next year. She's on the final level of Kindergarten, and rocking and rolling right through it. Not sure what we'll do when she's done... if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Loving: My BFF, Michelle, from college (day 1 of freshman year) is down here with her family at Disney World! I've been living in Orlando for 12 years and this is the FIRST time she's been able to visit!! I haven't seen "my Mishy" in a LONG time {since our Sorority's alumni weekend 4 years ago}. It's wayyyyy to long to go without your BFF! Our relationship rocks though, we picked it right up like no time has passed. It was amazing to meet her twin boys and she loved meeting Makenzie. The kids hit it off and now they're BFFs too. =) We're going over to her hotel to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow night... I can't wait! I should have taken Monday off. Lol.

Thinking: My living room is freezing! I think it's because of the fireplace and maybe the lack of insulation. It's not my house, so I have to just deal and put some gloves on.

Wanting: I have a white car, and I park it in the driveway which is under a very large tree. It gets SOOOOO dirty sitting there. It's gross. My hubby washed it only a few weeks ago, but it's really dirty AGAIN. After I wash it this weekend, I think I am going to start parking it across the street. There are no huge dirty trees there. =)

Needing: I still need a new dryer. Grrrrr. Car things like tires, brakes, and ignitions switches keep interfering with me getting a new dryer. Grrrrrrrrrr. Hopefully this month?? fingers crossed.

Last but not least, Pet Peeves: I have a bunch of them. The two things that irritate me THE MOST are 1. kids in cars without seat belts on and 2. pencil chewing.  OK... the MOST important person in my life is my daughter. I will NOT start my car until she is strapped in, in fact  she still sits in a car seat (it goes up to 65 pounds, so she'll be sitting in it for a while!). I DON'T UNDERSTAND how parents can drive without their precious children not buckled in. I don't get it! I don't get it! I DON'T GET IT! It makes me mad. When I see someone driving with their kids all over the car, I give them dirty looks. I really boils my blood. Common sense people, if you're in a crash, there's a GOOD possibility that your child will fly through the windshield.... BUCKLE them up. It takes 2 seconds, plus it's the LAW.  wow... that was a rant. =)  I'm sure every teacher can relate to the pencil chewing. I have a child in my class this year who is a constant pencil and eraser chewer and even the metal on the pencil. It drives me INSANE. I've spoken to the child's mother, and she doesn't think it's a big deal. Uggggg. If you have any suggestions on how to make it stop, I'd LOVE to hear them! =)

New Blog Designer and some things...

Happy February, Friends!!!
It's been a few weeks! Where did January go?? I've been SUPER busy! There have been a few little projects that Danielle and I have been working on as well as a pretty BIG project that my hubby and I have been working on. We're finally ready to share it with our blogger community.

Since my husband redesigned our blog, we've had some inquiries about the design. Well, that got us thinking... why don't we {mainly him, but with lots of my input} start designing blogs? We tossed around ideas and names. He designed and redesigned our new blog a few times, and now we finally LOVE the final version of our new blog design company!  It's called Little Birdy Designs! How cute is this button??

In my classroom we've been working on the Polar Bear Unit that I wrote a few weeks back. Here are some great pictures of them writing their amazing responses {for the most part, on their own!}. What great little writers I have!! We are going to begin our Arctic Animals research next week. It'll be their first time with research in my class. It should be tons of FUN!! 

The little {actually not so little} project that I've been working on is my Magic Tree House Abe Lincoln unit. These Common Core units are quite time consuming to do, but well worth the time and effort.

Winter... what's that? Show and Tell time!

Happy Wednesday Friends!!
I'm linking up with Denise over at Sunny Days in Second Grade for her Show and Tell Tuesday linky party! This week's theme is WINTER!! I'm a day late, but I was feeling pretty gross last night so I went to bed at 7:30, right after Jeopardy. I think it was a record for me.

Ok... so I am going to knock on some wood right now because I am LOVING the fact that it hasn't been too cold here in Orlando so far this winter. We've had one or two days where there was a little frost on my car in the morning, but that's it. {knock on wood} It's been 80 degrees for a week now. Rough life, I know.  But it's hard to wear flip flops and sandals to work all of the time...your feet always have to look good! =)


With that being said, getting into the "winter spirit" has been a little difficult for me, and for my kids. I'm hoping to change that next week! Well, I hope the spirit changes... not the weather!  Anyway, my copies of my Magic Tree House Polar Bears unit are all ready to go and I've found a class set of both books {Polar Bears past Bedtime and Polar Bears and the Arctic Fact Tracker}. I can't wait 'till Tuesday!  We are going to work on this unit for about three weeks. I would also like to do some cute polar bear craftivities with it, so I'm on the hunt for some super cute  ones! Happy Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday TPT Sale!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving, Friends!! We hope you all had an enjoyable day with family and friends! We had a wonderful day with our family... lots of yummy food, drinks, lots of laughs and of course Football! We all relaxed today since we're not black Friday shoppers. I even got a cuddle and a nap with my daughter Makenzie... she hasn't napped in almost two years, so it was a treat!I guess the trick is to keep her up late. Probably not... her teacher may not be too happy about that!

This is Makenzie... she's attends the afternoon voluntary pre-k program in our school. Her teacher is fabulous!! She does tons of awesome activities with her kiddos and they are learning so much!

I HAD to take a pic of this adorable turkey leg hat... I couldn't resist! Silly Aunt Danielle aka "Auntie Yellie" couldn't resist the turkey hat either! She looks cute too!

Danielle and I were even able to take a new picture together... we took it ourselves of course... instagram is so much fun! Overall, it was a lovely Thanksgiving. The quality time we spent with our parents was great and much needed! We're very lucky to be able to spend our holidays together as a family.
